Nimrods Theatre
The idea of the Nimrods originated inside the walls of the Brooklyn Lyceum after much deliberation between Eric Richmond (owner of the Lyceum) and myself starting in 2005. The Lyceum was looking for a permanent presence of actors/improvisors who could bring new works to life, including some fact-based story ideas, born from a combination of Richmond's vast knowledge of Brooklyn's History and the Lyceum's working relationship with the Greenwood Cemetery. I was looking for a home to express my developing theatrical vision. Most of my time in Brooklyn prior to my connection to the Lyceum was spent writing, reading, recording, and experimenting on my own in the hopes of finding a different way to communicate. The group mounted its first production in late 2006.Most of the tasks I took upon myself, including the planning, implementation and execution of simulating a realistic thunderstorm outside the walls of a chapel located in the Greenwood cemetery, the building of a 6 foot tall pulpit, the creation of a small, purposely cramped box theater on the second floor of the Brooklyn Lyceum (which had to be dismantled and rebuilt every 5 weeks), the creation of Foam latex masks for the Kafka production, the directing, stage managing, website creation, costumes, etc.. Why? At the time I felt that I did not have the authority to ask others to come join me. A certain level of exhaustion has taught me otherwise, and that is why I am dedicating most of my time now to getting others on board.
